Documentation review, not hands-on product testing. US-oriented statement and account audit using official Apple, Google Play, and provider workflows; dispute rights and refund rules are not addressed. Direct subscriptions, app-store purchases, marketplace channels, carrier or provider packages, bundles, and household accounts.
Editorial review target: 2026-12-19. Recheck provider terms at the point of use. Local edition; not yet published.
Two charges with the same streaming brand are not automatically duplicates, and two differently named charges can fund the same access. Reconcile the evidence before disputing, canceling, or buying again. This worksheet is an organizational tool, not legal or financial advice.
Make a charge ledger
Use statements covering at least two expected billing cycles, plus email receipts and subscription pages. Create one row per charge:
| Date | Statement descriptor | Amount/currency | Card or wallet | Receipt/order ID | Suspected service |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Do not merge rows just because the amounts match. A monthly subscription, channel add-on, bundle, rental, tax adjustment, or family purchase can produce separate entries. Mark pending authorizations separately from posted charges.
Apple lets users search purchase history by name, price, or order ID and filter by date, cost, type, and—in a Family Sharing group—family member (Apple Support). Google Play exposes app and digital-content orders in Budget & history, while payments.google.com separates Activity from Subscriptions & services (Google Play Help).
Search every billing channel
Check each Apple Account and Google Account you control, then the streaming provider, Prime Video Channels, Roku, YouTube, your carrier, and any TV or broadband package. Search receipt inboxes for the exact amount and date. If a purchase is absent from Google Play history, Google says it was likely made through another billing system; those alternative subscriptions also do not appear in Play's subscription center (Google Play Help).
For each match, record three identifiers: billing owner, viewing login, and plan/channel name. This catches the common pattern of one household paying for a direct account under one email and a channel subscription under another.
Match charges to entitlements
Open the service through each suspected route without starting a new trial. Record what each active subscription unlocks and its next renewal date. A direct plan and a marketplace channel may be separate products even if their libraries overlap. Conversely, a package may cover an existing viewing account after linking.
Apple explicitly warns that someone who already has an Apple service billed by Apple and then receives the same subscription from a carrier or provider should cancel one to avoid duplicate charges (Apple Support). That is a useful model, not proof that every apparent duplicate works the same way.
Classify the result
Give every pair one label:
- Confirmed duplicate: two active billing records fund materially the same entitlement and one is unnecessary.
- Separate products: for example, a base membership and an add-on channel.
- Household purchase: another authorized person or account made it.
- Unrecognized: no receipt, account, or entitlement explains it.
- Unresolved: evidence conflicts or the seller cannot yet identify the transaction.
Do not promise yourself a refund. Cancellation usually prevents a future renewal; it does not by itself decide the treatment of past charges. Save the ledger, receipts, screenshots, and support case number.
Act once, then confirm
For a confirmed duplicate, choose which route to keep based on access, renewal terms, and account ownership. Follow the cancel-versus-pause checklist for the other route and verify its end date. For an unrecognized charge, use the official reporting path of the seller named by the receipt or statement, and separately secure the relevant account.
Finally, add the surviving subscription to one household list with seller, amount, next renewal, and login owner. Recheck the following statement. The audit is complete only when every posted charge has an explanation or an active support/dispute record.
