The Most-Watched Streaming Shows of 2025, According to the Data
By Nielsen's US measurement, Bluey was the most-watched streaming title of 2025, with 45.2 billion minutes viewed, and The Pitt was the top new original drama. On Netflix's own global numbers, Adolescence was the most-watched show of the first half of 2025 and Wednesday season 2 led the second half. Those rankings do not contradict each other: they measure different things, which this guide explains.

Nielsen's 2025 picture (US, all platforms)
Nielsen is the closest thing to a neutral scorekeeper for US streaming because it measures many services with the same method. On February 3, 2026, Nielsen published its second annual ARTEY Awards, covering streaming viewing from December 30, 2024, through December 28, 2025 (Nielsen).

Nielsen's 2025 picture (US, all platforms)
Library shows dominate full-year totals. A children's series with many short episodes, rewatched constantly, piles up minutes all year. Bluey was also Nielsen's top overall streaming title of 2024 [VERIFY 2024 figure against Nielsen's 2024 year-end release].
- NOTE 2201
Nielsen's 2025 picture (US, all platforms)
New originals are ranked separately for a reason. A new drama like The Pitt cannot compete on raw minutes with a decade of Grey's Anatomy episodes, so Nielsen's "new original" categories are the fairer comparison for the year's breakouts.
- NOTE 2202
Nielsen's 2025 picture (US, all platforms)
"Most-binged" is a different idea. Gunsmoke won by episodes watched per viewer, not total minutes.

Netflix's 2025 picture (global, Netflix only)
Netflix publishes twice-yearly engagement reports covering nearly everything on the service, plus weekly Top 10 lists on Tudum.
- NOTE 2205
January–June 2025
Netflix reported more than 95 billion hours watched in the first half of 2025. Adolescence was the most-watched show with 145M views, and the final season of Squid Game was the third most-watched program of the half with 72M views in just four days; across all three seasons, Squid Game drew 231M views in the half (Netflix).

Netflix also highlighted UNTAMED season 1 (93M), Gabby's Dollhouse (108M across seasons), Peppa Pig (90M across seasons), Ms. Rachel (73M across both seasons), and The Beast in Me (43M). All five seasons of Stranger Things ranked among the half's 15 most-watched shows, with 275M combined views. The half's most-watched title overall was a film, KPop Demon Hunters, with 482M views (Netflix). Netflix did not state the rank for UNTAMED in the passage we reviewed, so we have not assigned it the number 3 spot [VERIFY in the full spreadsheet].

- NOTE 2226
Minutes vs. views
Minutes reward length. A show with many seasons or long episodes collects more minutes than a short limited series watched by the same number of people. Netflix's "views" divide total hours by runtime, which roughly estimates how many full watches a title got and makes an eight-episode drama more comparable to a long series. That is why Adolescence ranks so high on Netflix while it would not top a minutes-based chart against library shows.
- NOTE 2227
TV sets vs. all devices
Nielsen's streaming rankings count viewing "through television" in the US (Nielsen). Phones, tablets, and laptops are not included in those charts. Netflix counts viewing on every device worldwide.
- NOTE 2228
Time windows
The same show can post different figures in different reports. Adolescence shows 145M views in Netflix's January–June 2025 report but 142.6M on the "first 91 days" list, because the windows are different lengths.
- NOTE 2229
Measurement changes
Nielsen adopted its Big Data + Panel methodology, which was accredited by the Media Rating Council in January 2025, as its system of record in September 2025 (Wikipedia summary of Nielsen announcements) [VERIFY against Nielsen press release]. Year-over-year comparisons that span a methodology change should be treated with caution.
- NOTE 2230
What's missing
Not every service releases detailed data. Figures for services that only publish selective press-release numbers are hard to compare.
- NOTE 2231
What's missing
Nielsen's weekly charts depend on titles meeting its tracking thresholds and platform coverage.
- NOTE 2232
What's missing
YouTube and free ad-supported services are measured differently from subscription originals in many public reports [VERIFY how Nielsen's year-end categories treat YouTube content].
